Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre classes are offered from 8 years of age.

We study the bbodance Musical Theatre syllabus and exams are held in September each year.  Exams are not compulsory, but the syllabus offers great technique and style which helps the students when it comes to performing.  The bbodance syllabus incorporates a creative learning strand which allows the students to learn about costume design, history, choreographers and the other elements involved in the theatre.

Once the exams have been sat each year the students will begin learning their dances for the showcase.

We are also offering a new class in 2019 - Broadway Heels which will train dancers to develop versatility, control, acting and technique. Students will be challenged in a funny and positive environment to develop their performance skills dancing with character heels and enjoying the choreographies of Broadway. More information is included below.

Prices are from $52.50 per month, for a 60 minute class once a week.

“ Dance is for everybody.  I believe the dance came from the people and that it should always be delivered back to the people.”

- Alvin Ailey

Classes - Musical Theatre and Broadway Heels Class

We currently offer one Musical Theatre dance class on Saturday afternoons, but as demand grows we may offer more classes. This class is intended for dancers aged 8 and above. Broadway Heels will train dancers to develop versatility, control, acting and technique. The class focuses on performance and musicality, touching on the styles of Jerome Robbins, Bob Fosse, Jack Cole, etc. We will begin with a modern/jazz warm-up working towards gaining strength, flexibility and core connection. The energy continues with across-the-floor exercising rhythm, coordination and personal style. Students will be challenged in a funny and positive environment to develop their performance skills dancing with character heels and enjoying the choreography of Broadway. We also have a Jazz and Contemporary dance programme as well as a full Grade & Vocational bbodance Ballet programme. Our adult dance classes encorporate a range of styles, and are suitable for beginners and upwards.

"My daughter is definitely NOT a girly-girl and I don't consider myself to be a "dance mum" so I was a bit nervous when she decided she wanted to learn musical theatre and contemporary dance at the Sara Anderson School of Dance.

To my surprise and delight, she has continued learning to dance here for over two years and she is improving in grace, strength and physicality, but more important than that she just loves going to classes.

And I feel welcome too! Definitely no pretentions here at this dance school. I highly recommend it."
